What to expect, and how to get the most from your treatment
- Eat a light meal a few hours before the treatment and avoid caffeine, recreational drugs, or alcohol.
- After treatment, avoid excessive physical activity, over eating, drinking, recreational drugs.
- Try to have a relaxing rest of the day to allow the treatment to work. Even if you feel better, it is important to give your body enough time to heal completely.
- Please do not alter your prescribed western medical treatment due to starting acupuncture treatments without consulting a physician.
- Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes to allow easy access up to your elbows and knees, abdomen and back.
- Please do not wear perfume as a courtesy to other patients that might have chemical sensitivities.
- Please silence your cell phone during your visit so that you can relax as a courtesy to other patients.
- How many treatments will I need, and how often? That depends on many factors. In China, patients get treated three or more times a week for as long as it is needed. In the USA it is common to receive treatments once a week. A single acupuncture treatment produces beneficial effects on the body that usually last for a day or two because forces acting to counteract benefits remain active. As with other therapies, to make continuous progress, it is best to give the next treatment before the effects of the previous treatment have completely worn off. Although some effects of acupuncture may be felt immediately, studies and experience show that acupuncture effects are cumulative. In most cases treatment is more effective after 10-15 treatments, especially for chronic or more severe conditions. All this should be taken into consideration for treatment planning and realistic progress evaluation
